Long Storey short, tacho repaired, however PO left very little room on wires for removal install, I decided to extend them, all fine with tacho partly out of dash, pushed home started car and obviously had a short from plume of smoke.
with tacho half out the car will start, then dies and wont start, so something else seems to have gone astray. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hello, it may be that it starts on the solenoid connection but then dies because there is a disconnection on the wire from the back of your tachometer ( the white wire on a 72 +2s) to the distributor. ( that was my case many years ago) good luck Steve

Hi street,
If you saw smoke there is likely some insulation melted on one or more of your dash wires, first step will be to locate the damage and identify which circuit is causing it.
Do disconnect the battery first!
Regards
Iain
