Headlight microswitch actuation?

On the little metal tang that protrudes from the headlight vacuum valve to actuate the microswitches, is there supposed to be some sort of plastic tip or something? I've just got the bare metal tang and it isn't even as wide as the gap between the switch buttons and the existing screw-holes don't allow for an alignment that would make the tang operate both buttons.

I don't know if my switch is the same as what you are referring to as the microswitch placements seem to vary.
This switch is from a Federal S4.
There is a white plastic wedge as shown that actuates the microswitch buttons:
(Note the microswitches have been replaced from original, thus the torquoise color).

Veg, this thread has some good detail shots of the switches used in the Plus 2. Also has a reference to new switches if needed, although the link may have gone bad. I know I had issues aligning the switches to get things to work.

When you get to the relay and momentary switch wiring for the side lights there are some good threads on that deal; hint, it is a bit involv d.
