Coil relocation

Elan S3. I know that some of you have moved the ignition coil from the standard and rather vulnerable location under the carburettors to a safer place - any recommendations? Not long ago I had a major fuel leak from the front carb when the engine was running, so I was very lucky.....
Thanks
Malcolm

Hi Malcom, the coil on my S4 has been moved using the bracket that is available from CliveyBoy - you can see the new position in the attached picture.

I'm considering doing the same in my S3 Malcolm. Think I'm going to go for the Clivey Boy bracket, but would be interested to know how you get on.
Cheers

I didn't have metal working facilities but did have fibreglass materials! I relocated my coil to the upper radiator bracket with a homemade FRP bracket.

While I don't think its a bad idea to move the coil from its original position under the carbs, a properly connected coil shouldn't in of itself be a fire risk. The distributor however is an accident waiting to happen if covered in fuel. Tough to relocate though.

That's where I put mine; it's a bit cooler than the standard location; I just used a generic coil bracket and bent the two "legs" slightly.
Cheers,
Pete.

Not directly relevant for the OP but on the plus two I've seen them relocated higher up the inside wing and also to the top of the peddle box on rhd cars. Both locations improve access and move away from the carbs.

OK I went for a location, as suggested, just behind the radiator, using the standard coil fixing to the chassis/body fixing in the front upright box section.
