Wiper Wash Switch

Hi,
I have 1968 +2, unfortunately the windscreen washers (plunger type) no longer work. The wiper part of the switch works fine. I am having difficulty finding a replacement. It will probably better to incorporate an electrical pump into the system. Has anyone on the forum carried out this mod? any suggestions for a discreet switch and location for it would be welcome.

I'm not very familiar with that type of wiper switch, but can you take the switch apart and add a momentary switch that can be activated by the pump plunger? Maybe a roller type micro switch would work. It would still look original.

when I bought mine the plunger didn't work
so I bought another......however on further investigation I found a small electric pump at the bottle.....
I called the previous owner only to find that hed fitted a small switch under the dash for said pump....and thus I had a good squirter for the screen.......
I like my solution.......makes washing the screen easier than the pump action
just a thought

With a small two position switch (down-spring loaded/up-on) and a wiper relay, you have the choice of intermittent/perm. wipe and pump...I'll dig out the diagram if you're interested...you could even use it as Bud said..

Do you have the double horn switch (steering wheel centre and indicator stalk )?...If so you could utilise one of those...

I unscrewed the plunger/pump assembly from the back of the wiper switch and replaced it with an inexpensive momentary-contact pushbutton switch from Radio Shack. The threaded sleeve surrounding the button was a pretty good fit into the wiper switch, and I secured it with a little epoxy. It's activated by pushing in on the wiper switch knob, just like the original. I got an aftermarket washer/tank assembly from the local auto parts store. Works like a champ...

Recent (4th Feb 2013) thread may help:.
lotus-chassis-f36/screen-washer-pump-t27243.html?hilit=washer
It isn't difficult to go electric but mount the pump as low as practical to help it prime.

Thanks for the great response,
My switch is the sealed plastic type switch so its not straight forward to separate the pump/plunger assembly.
I am sure I will be able to sort something out from this post and the link to the previous post.
Will let you know how I get on.
Thanks again
Keith.

As requested...(also gives a decent view of the wiper control)
In my install, the relay, bottom right of the pic was fitted right on top of the wiper motor wiring using crimps to connect the two wires ( 53,15 ) picking up a local earth L and only one wire to the switch W/W (centre off, spring loaded down, locking up ) this also gives control over the pump and wipe..
