Stromberg Distributor in a Weber Head Motor

I'm converting over to a Weber Head Motor but only have a Stromberg Distributor. Can I modify the distributor for the Weber motor, or is there an off the shelf distributor I can use? I have a 25D with Vac retard, but the retard is toast. So any cost effective alternative would be appreciated, Thanks Allan

There was a recent post (before the change of categories) where someone wa looking for a stromberg dizzy. It may be more beneficial to sell or trade your existing dizzy for a Weber-based one, rather than convert yours which for all I know may now be quite rare.
Just a thought.

When I put a weber head on my Federal Sprint, I bought all the guts needed to convert my distributor to a 40953 advance curve; basically the cam, weights and springs. Doubt if you can get those parts now, but I'm sure any race car shop can re-curve your distributor to match what you want.

I found this post that says I need a 41189A distributor for my application posted by sgbooth elan-f14/twin-cam-distributor-variants-advance-curve-data-etc-t1996.html . I will attempt to source out for this particular distributor, but plan B would be to buy one of the after market variations. I have been looking at the Petronix "Flame Thrower" Distributors on ebay. Seems that they come with or without a vacuum advance. But don't our cars use a vacuum retard? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flame-Thrower-F ... 6d&vxp=mtr Plus it gives very little detail on the distributor's specs. Anyone try these distributors on a Weber motor? I think this is the same unit RD sells, but as a kit with the coil and wires. Would this be a viable plug and play alternative? Or will I also have to recurve this distributor as well? Thanks Allan

The vacuum retard distributor was used on Federal emission-controlled engines, with Stromberg carbs. Since you are converting to Webers, you don't need that.
I bought a Pertronix distributor from Ray (RD Enterprises) for the Elan, mainly because the old one was shot and needed new bearings etc. Anyway, I am very pleased with it. The engine has Dell'Orto carbs, big-valve Vegantune head and Vegantune VJ5 cams, to give you some frame of reference. Like a UK Sprint spec, kinda-sorta.

Right. Twinks don't have vacuum advance. They might be better if they did, but that's another story!
