wiper wheel box

PostPost by: AChen » Sun Oct 14, 2012 5:57 pm

Is there a secret for removing the wiper wheelbox on an S4 elan? There is an 8 sided bolt holding down a chromed piece that needs to be removed?? I have tried penetrating oil to no avail. There seems to be nowhere to grab the wheelbox so that I can apply leverage on the nut.

I'm getting close to grinding off the nut.

Regards,
Tony

When using the nut splitter its been my experience that just beginning the split is usually enough to break loose the corroded nut so that it can be unscrewed. Never used one on a wheel box nut but when I read the problem the "nut cracker", as I've always heard it referred to, immediatly came to mind. Also replaced some wheel boxes a short while ago and if the original's are in good shape definetly save them since the quality of the replacement's are not as good. At least the ones offered for a Sprite.

Kurt.

Thanks guys. I removed part of the nut with a cutoff tool attached to my drill. Then was able to tap it loose with a punch.
