My +2s130 has a slight misfire and seems little down on power, today I got round to looking at it, obvious faults are a crack around where the centre cable goes, in a very loose centre electrode and a worn rotor arm (loose brass plate and reduced outer diameter). this is all pretty easy to sort out and I will order some quality replacement parts fron the distributor doctor. I have also noticed that the rotor arm can not be twisted against the advance springs, I assume this means the advance weights are seized? also does the dizzy come out with the front carb on?

As long as you put the number one piston at TDC on the firing stroke, you can get the rotor oriented correctly later. Just remember that it rotates a bit as the helical drive gear engages. Where you start doesn't matter as long as the points open when cylinder one is supposed to fire!!

Erm, not so, methinks you have to start with the rotor arm somewhat near the spark lead for piston 1, and the distie cap is one of the side entry type and so has a desirable position with the leads more or less parallel to the block and going toward the rear.

Desirable, yes. Necessary, no unless your plug leads are too short to reach the plugs. The relationship of the rotor to the relevant plug terminal in the distributor cap must be held but the angular orientation of the distributor body to the block doesn't matter electrically. My leads, though not in the original orientation but similar to many others, go from the distributor cap up to the plug valley midway along the head and not at the back of the head.

Had a look tonight, it does move but only around 5 degrees max wheras I believe it should be around 13 degrees. When I get the time I will pull it out and strip and clean it. To align it i will get it at tdc, pull the dizzy out and note where the rotor arm ends up then put it back the same, it has lumentation so hopefully this will be close enough to get it running and timed with the light.
