+2S Interior Light

Over the years I have seen much debate on the origins of the (Hella) interior lights (over the doors) on the +2S, presumably as they are hard to find. Many have suggested they came from the VW Beetle but I have never found one that looks the same. When my Passenger Door Light finally disintegrated to a point where it could not be glued I began the search again in earnest. They are in fact from the VW Bay T2/Camper van from 1968-1975 (make sure you have the right year as the post 1975 ones are a different size and design, there are also switched and unswitched versions) and can be obtained from a number of VW camper van specialists (I got mine from VWHeritage and was delivered the next day). The internal design of the one I received is slightly different in that it has a piece of sprung metal to hold the bulb in rather than springs. I also had to change one of the spade connectors on the car as the width of the spade terminal on the switch side of the light was wider than the old one. Everything else fitted perfectly.

That's source for mine as well but also recently heard they are found on BMW's of that vintage-certainly fits with Hella but likely more expensive. Gordon Sauer

Say, John,
Thanks from me, too, for this thread. I started a thread recently looking for the source:

I included a couple pix of one of my lamps.
Another member offered this source of reproduction lamps, which he says are very nice. Just don't have "Hella" and "Made in Germany" on them:

I'm searching for period parts from Hella . . .
