23D4 straight cap from Burton

Hi all,
Before I go down yet another expensive blind alley, has anyone fitted the straight distributor cap from Burton Racing?

I appreciate that you would have to get right angled ignition leads at one end, but will it fit? Does the rev limiter rotor arm fit?

costs less than the normal side entry cap.

Kind regards

Hi

Don't know but the side entry is not that dear. I paid less than ?10 a few years ago at one of the shows.

SJ Sportscars have them:

It's not really the cost, it's the fitting of modern HT leads as opposed to the copper cored leads.
Can you fit modern leads into a screw in cap?

Jeff,

When I was suffering from a string of failed side entry caps, I resorted to a straight entry cap similar to the one in your picture. It did just fit, but the HT leads needed to be fitted with right angle push fit connectors at the dizzy cap end first.

Even then, the HT lead from the coil which goes to the centre connector on the cap was pressed hard against the bottom of the cast intlet tract projecting from the head.

It was not a satisfactory solution in my opinion. I resorted to a side entry cap as soon as I could find one that worked.

In answer to your other point, There are side entry caps with push fit connectors available, so you dont need to use screw fixing side entry caps if you want to use pre-made leads. My preference is to use copper stranded HT lead with NGK sparkplug caps, which are well made with a very positive click when fitted.
