Radio Times

Whilst thumbing through the new Radio Times* I came across this paragraph (p51) by the TV editor Alison Graham, talking about a new drama called Mad Dogs:

"..Men have long had a rough deal from television dramas (and frequently, comedies) where they are invariably depicted as serial murderers/torturers of women who delight in inflicting fear and pain on bound and terrified victims in well equipped dungeons; or halfwitted saps who wouldn't recognise an independent thought even if it drove up to them in a bright red Lotus Elan and offered them a lift to the nearest lapdancing club."

...is this a really random comment or some reference to maybe a film scene or something that I must have missed?

As an owner of a bright red Lotus Elan I need to be told! I always take a taxi when I go.
