Advice needed on plunger door switch

PostPost by: spyzee » Thu Dec 02, 2010 5:36 pm

Over the years the little plunger switch in the door jamb that operates the interior light has finally worn a hole in the door frame. I am looking for the best way to repair this. I could just fill the the hole, I could fit a piece of aluminium as a strike plate. Is there a replacement plastic switch type that could be used. I'm not too precious about original equipment so am interested in what others have done?

many thanks,
Colin

Colin

I've fitted a couple of chrome blanking plugs to act as striker plates for the switches...

John

P.S. can you delete the other post?

I attached small stainless steel plates with self-tapping screws. I must say that John's approach with the metal blanking plugs is quite elegant.

I have to agree, it is indeed an elegant solution, and I will do something very similar.

Are the +2 switches more aggressive than the 2 seater ones then? Wearing a hole in the door where the switch hits isn't something I've ever had a problem with. A couple of years ago though, when I replaced the door switches, I used some little plastic caps to go over the end of the plungers - mainly to adjust the contact point but the paint on the door is still there.
