Battery Tray/Shelf

I have checked the archive again and found lots of things but not what I am looking for - Perhaps because I spent an hour reading other interesting stuff!

At sometime in the past my S4 FHC (must add this to my details so I don't have to keep writing it!) has had a new rear section fitted...and a battery tray/shelf.

The battery tray was thrown at the car and glassed in place. Luckily they didn't bother keying the surface so it has been simple to remove.

The question is how should it look when fitted correctly? I'm assuming the 15 degree lean into the boot was a modification!

Pictures would be a great help.

Hi,

I have stripped out the boot of my S4 Elan, the photo shows the battery tray in position ready for refitting.

I have more photos if required showing the tray prior to removal.

I took one photo with the tape measure originating at the point where the raised muffler recess starts and the spare tire mount form a channel at the back bottom of the boot floor. The tape reads 14 1/2 inch or 375mm. Its a large photo so I won't display it here. hope this helps some.

I repositioned mine, raising it about an inch, because my spare is 185/60/13. So consider your size of spare, or size of battery, when finalizing placement. Dan

Hello,

Very helpful pictures but I don't know if my battery trail is in the correct position and with correct size. As shown in my topic "boot restoration starts" a picture of my boot where it is easy to see that the trail is larger in the direction of the centre of the boot witha round corner going to the body. This cause two inconvenience:
1. The original Dunlop 155x13 spare wheel remain to much to the right and the centre hole is not matching.
2. The wood cover rim cannot ccpvet properly and the left size must ne cut in a different size.
Thank you for any explanation in order to restore my Elan sprint federal correctly.

I have been busy all week a. glassing, filling, and sanding. b. taking my engine to bits.

Umberto, Take a look at the first picture in the link that Brian posted - federal car - federal cars have the side marker light.

Karl, Thanks, just what I am aiming to achieve! Just one question - the bumber attachment(?) bobbin in your picture - just a plain bobbin glassed in? is there one on the drivers side? as I dont have one there!

Dan, Good point - I'll use the wheel as a guide when glassing it in place.

Yes there is one on each side glassed in. They are plain bobbins.
