Disklok security device

PostPost by: SprinTango » Mon Aug 30, 2010 7:25 pm

In an effort to make my Elan Sprint and Colin Chapman steering wheel more secure, I am considering buying a "Disklok" steering wheel lock. Before I spend my money, has anyone had experience of these - do they fit the Elan OK? Thanks, Nigel

Hello Nigel

I am also considering a ' Disklok ' type steering wheel lock for the same reasons you have stated, but have no local supplier were I can try one to gauge the fit and how effective they are etc. and would like to try before I buy.

I would think that someone out there must have one of these ???

Paul, Yes I am surprised nobody has been able to answer this, although I have recently spoken to a lifelong Elan owner who says he remembers seeing them on our cars. I now plan to buy one cheap off ebay to try, and sell it on if not suitable. They come in 3 sizes, with the smallest being for wheels up to 39cm diameter. I think my wheel is around 37cm so it should fit.
Best regards, Nigel

Hi

I use

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165565

on my +2 with signed original steering wheel, it fits just fine.

Not sure what size it is but it is the silver one bought from Halfords for ?80

Have a look at elan-f14/steering-wheel-security-devices-t20956.html

Hope this helps

Hi all,

Just seen the thread on discloks and I have first hand knowledge of them.

Firstly they are very secure and even have a Thatcham rating, they will take upwards of 30 minutes to get into which will put off all but the most determined thieves.

I have glued thin rubber blocks into mine so it hugs the wheel and also it does not damage the surface, this works very well.

The arm is suppossed to butt up to something solid, I dont leave mine next to the centre consol as I worry that if someone yanked it it would crack the plastic, so I leave it door side.

good product well worth the money, mine is 10 years old now and as good as ever, minus a little paint here and there!

I am nothing to do with the firm just a satisfied customer.

Hi Nigel

It looks as though there is enough positive feed back now to give one of these steering locks a go, I will see if I can get one later this week and will let you know how it works out.

Regard,
Paul

Hello Nigel

The Disklok arrived yesterday from www.saundersonsecurity.co.uk within 48hrs. of placing the order, cost ?60 + a free carrying case. It is heavy and a little fiddly to fit but otherwise it is a well made and a strong bit of kit that does the job better than any other device of this kind that I have seen, as a bonus it also fits my VW Golf.

Regards,
Paul

I've used a variety of steering wheel locks on various cars over the years. At the moment I've got something similar to the Disklok on my Elan; it's bright yellow and I can't remember the maker's name. I wouldn't do without such locks, particularly on the Elan, but I usually find that sooner or later they become tricky to use, usually with the key becoming difficult to turn in the lock. Bearing in mind you're paying a lot of money for some simple metal work and a so-called secure lock, I'm not impressed with the locks themselves. But I suppose everything that's used regularly wears out eventually.
