FEDERAL SPEC GENUINE LUCAS REAR LIGHT BODIES FOR SALE

PostPost by: 512BB » Sat Aug 28, 2010 7:36 am

This is a heads up for you guys in the States. I have for sale a pair of NEW genuine Lucas rear light bodies, to fit S4, Sprint, +2 and Europa, FEDERAL SPEC. They are for sale on Ebay in the UK, item no 250688224854, and for those of you who would not think to have a look on the UK site for parts, I have listed them in the US as well, item no 250688509019. But as it says in the ad, dont bid on them on the US site, as all you will receive is a rusty washer, with 50 dollar shipping costs! Just log onto the UK site, sign in and bid away.

Perhaps someone can advise if these are still available in the US, or if they are being remade in India, as the UK spec ones now are.

All the best,

Leslie

Your's may be a fed spec tail lamp housing but all of the S4's that I have seen are of the divided housing for the tail lamp/stop lamp and the directionals like the photos below.

I think that these lenses below are Jaguar XKE as they are all RED and have no clear area for the backup lense.

Yours may be Sprint or something like that, All of the S4 bodies I've had have been drilled for 2 tail lamp bulbs to poke through. Does anyone else have the lamp housings like Leslie's on there Elan's in the U.S.?

here is a clickable link so you don't have to waste time searching on ebay, doesn't this stuff belong in the "For Sale" area?

Starting bid GBP 295.00

My mid-1971 build date federal +2S came with single bulb units. My understanding was that all federal S4 Elans and +2Ss came this way. I remember Don Tingle and I calling Lotus East because we were not sure about the function of the Lucas "tin god", the metallic box that supplied power to the tail lamps. The fellow at Lotus East told us the "tin god" contained relays that allowed the low wattage filament of the single bulb units of federal cars to function as running lamp, turn indicator and hazard flasher. I had mistakenly thrown out my "tin god" during my first rebuild in 1978 and ended up putting dual bulb "European-spec" (per Don Tingle) units with 1/2 red and 1/2 amber lenses in my +2S. Back then Don sold quite a few of the dual bulb units to people like me who were trying to be tragically hip. I just looked at my Service Parts Lists and Workshop Manuals for both Elan and +2 and unfortunately they don't help too much as only the dual bulb units are illustrated but different part numbers are listed for federal and non-federal cars for both the Elan S4 and +2.
