Wiring an electric fan.

I've just received an electric fan kit from Paul Matty. The mounting instructions are very clear but there is no information about wiring the fan. It's a blower fan and is not thermostatically controlled so it will need a switch.
Where do I pick up a live feed and how should it be earthed.
Can anyone help?

I have wired a sucker-type fan int ot he igniton -when the ignition is on so is the fan. Seems to work OK, although the fan could be bigger (then, so could the radiator....) :?

Your car is a late Sprint(?) so it should have the otter switch and the wiring for the electric fan (and the fan?)
If it hasn't I would fit a Revotec in line switch and set the temperature for about 8 to 10 degrees over the thermostat temperature. The switch comes with a relay so all you have to find is a live feed

Hi Terry,
My car is a 1969 S4 and there is no Otter switch and it has an engine driven fan. It's been struggling a bit during the last week or two of hot weather and as soon as we hit heavy traffic I've had to put the heater on to keep the temp. below 100. So for peace of mind, an electric fan.

I'd go for the Revotec switch then

It works great on mine , I have a 71 degree thermostat and have the fan come on at about 78 to 80 degrees
TTR reckoned that it was pretty much utopia!

It has been a little hot here, I've fitted an Extra (!!!) fan on my Caterham now 2 electric - 1 front and 1 back

Me too. The revotec control is pretty good so far. I was also at Lemans in all that heat and I had no overheating issues at all. Much to my surprise I might add!! :roll: The car used no coolant the entire 2 week trip. :wink:

Use the revotec or similar which switches via a good relay and you should not have any problems at all..

I also have a small manual override switch in the cabin, so that I can switch the fan on manually before the engine starts to overheat...Just in case.
