S4 elect fan wiring & relay questions

My S4 wiring diagram doesn't show the electric radiator fan and related wiring. I'd like to know the original routing of the wiring and the color of the wiring to the fan. Also, was there a relay provided originally?
If someone would let me know, I would appreciate it.
BTW, the car is close to being back on the road after years in the garage. I should be able to drive it again within a month.
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,
I can tell you that the factory did not provide a relay for the electric fan which is the reason that most of the original Kenlowe switches no longer function. My original fan had one wire coming from it and it was black even though it was obviously not ground. I would say that you're free to come up with any wire colors that you want. My only suggestion is that you try to stick with the most logical colors that Lucas used in their wiring systems. Best of luck.

A relay would be a sensible move. My original fitment fan motor was pulling a steady 8 amps when I measured it. The switch will see more than that at the moment of contact.

Frank and Stuart,
Thanks for your quick replies. I'm installing a Spal fan, so I'll also get their relay. I was hoping that there was a relay provided originally, but it makes sense to use a new one considering how important the electric fan will be. I won't be using a mechanical/belt-driven fan.
I just noticed that the +2 wiring diagram shows the electric fan and no relay is shown. Wiring is brown-purple from the fuse box to what is probably the temp sensor on the radiator then black-green and finally solid black to the fan motor. So I have some color references to use.

Bob,
I asked myself all the same questions in regard to fitting an electric fan (or two). Also came up with the +2 wire colours. Very hard to find this end of the world, so used blue and black (same colour as fitted to fans) and wrapped them in non sticky wiring loom tape. I used a new, reproduction relay to match what was already fitted. These should be available from Holden or other classic wiring provider.
Colin.
