converted tach [to espisicapailian ]

oy --I converted my car to neg ground so I converted the tach also ----now I cant get the tach to run ---it did at one point but I removed it to tidy up the wiring --[ Now silly old buggar that I am ] ---cannot remember the wiring I used -----key to pos on the coil ---neg on the coil and up through the loop and down to the spade connector to the distributor and fused to the power spade on the tach -----------now it blows fuses and won't allow the car to start when the tach is hooked up but will start with the tach undone ----a little help here from any Marconi or ohms type please -- :? --ed

I think you should have three wires. Power, Ground, and Signal Hope this helps Signal connected to - side of coil and pwr, gnd self explanitory.

ok ---I have power to the tac from a fused source and ground from the case ----but where do the two leads from the external induction loop go ????ed

They usually say either RVI or RVC on the face of the dial in small white writing.

If that's not there, what colour wires are coming from it?

The two wires from the induction coil go in series with the main power supply to the coil; not in the path from the coil to the points.

So one connects to the +ve supply from the ignition, the other to the coil +ve. Coil -ve goes to the points.

Connect the black wire to your Shapecraft alluminium hard-top; you will have no further problems. :twisted:

26/R wiring is the very work of the devil, so I've read. :roll:

If the tach was a positive grd unit then you have to make a change to the inside of the tach.
I have done a few of these and found a site on the web which was a discussion on a sunbeam tiger converstion which was a great help. I will look to see if I can find it for you and post back later.

well Paddy you were close ----you tipped me off with your reply -------having converted the tach to neg ground I had to place the red lead on the neg coil and run the black one to the counter spade on the instrument ----all---- is well next I will convert the speedo to Luthersm or perhaps methodism [where NOBODY has a good time ---thanks ---ed

If you are using a dynamo you will need to change the polarisation of the field windings by holding a supply to the small f terminal of the dymamo for a second you will get a small blue flash , now you are neg earth the neg from the coil goes to the dist .
