halogen conversion

I have just bought some halogen headlamps to replace my sealed beam units. I was thinking if you cut the back off the headlamp bowl you could change the bulb without taking the lamp out.
Has anyone tried this? Or is this a stupid idea, it wouldn?t be the first I?ve had.

I?m glad I didn?t go ahead and saw the back off, I would have lost the spring mounting.
