which is minus and which is plus

PostPost by: Uboat » Wed Apr 15, 2009 11:31 am

Hi,
How do I identify the plus and minus battery cable in the trunk? There are no signs of plus or minus, and they are both black. The left one, standing behind the car looking forward, is connected to earth. The one on the right is leading forward to the interior. Which is which?

Can anybody instruct me before I ruin my new battery?

Regards

Hi Ulf

Your car, a 1974 model, should be negative earth (it might have a lable on the brake servo to this effect) so the earth lead going to the chassis is the battery negative (minus)

Hi Ulf,

I see that your car is a 1974 +2, so it is negative earth. You connect the earth cable (i.e. the one bolted to the chassis) to the negative pole on the battery.

Thanks,
I tested yesterday, and there came music out of the exhaust for the first time in five months..
