S3 Elan headlight bulb

PostPost by: gmzez » Sun Oct 12, 2008 8:23 pm

greetings everyone,, sorry for asking a basic question... How do you get to the main headlight bulbs please... Most cars have a retaining screw on the main outer chrome bezel. But mine do not.. and do the headlights have a seperate relay ,, (left/right) if so, where are they located please?.... thanks....

Enrico, its a bugger! The chrome ring is fitted around a couple of tabs and spring clipped at the bottom. To release the clip, there is a hole in the fiberglass pod at the bottom and you can access it (barely) from the rear, ie, inside the nose of the car. You can also release the clip from the front but you'll risk scratching the paint.

Once the chrome ring is off, it'll be obvious as to how to remove the headlight.

Enrico,

If you have a baby Elan, the relays should be located near the left hinge of the bonnet.

thanks Frank.... The r/h (offside) headlight relay is under the dash and the L/H must be the square 3 wire relay beside the L/H hinge in inner wing. Theres also a 2 wire round relay beside it.. From memory of the ignition was in the off position and headlamps on,, another relay flashed the headlight on off untill turmed off............fewwwww
