Can anybody tell me what thread is used on the studs on the backs of the dashboard instruments? Is it 3BA?

Hi John,
No. I was about to ask the same question, But I can tell you they are not BA.
The thread details are. Dia:- 3.86 mm or 0.152'' x 36 tpi..

What ever the blazes that is. I also thought 1/8'' unf. But no its not that either :? :? Old car scrap yard visit coming up I think.

Let me (us!) know when you find out.. Post it.

John/Alex,

Those numbers fit ASME 7-36 (American Society of Mechanical Engineers)

M4 Coarse is pretty close at 0.157 x 36.3 TPI
Probably worth a try.

Go to an autojumble and get some intruments that dont work from another car, I used to get MG and Triumph guages for next to nothing. there has to be some good cheap doners around.

I seem to recall that I had no problem finding replacement nuts at the local (American) hardware store. I think they are just 10-32 (no. 10 machine screw x 32tpi). But, I got nylon nuts (all nylon, not Nylocks) so an exact thread match was not needed. They have the benefit of staying where you put them without the need for excessive tightening - which, I found, can cause your mechanical temp. gauge to stick.

That said, I seem to have managed to keep most of the original knurled round nuts, Lord knows how, so the nylon nuts are not used much.

Mine are now all present and correct! I scrounged one from my ser 2 owning mate.. Thanks Dave...
