Alarming options?

PostPost by: Bruce Crowthorne » Wed May 07, 2008 8:39 am

Now that I have the Elan on the road and the nice weather is here I am starting to use the car more. And of course I am leaving it in car parks for longer and longer.....

What are the best options for an alarm?
I would like a "home fit", self armimg type (so like a Thatcham type 1 alarm).
As I built the car I fitted an aluminium bulkhead behind the seat, so that is where I would hope to fit it.

I already have a battery cut out with a bypass with a fuse, so if I leave the car for a few hours I can just remove the central contact bolt. It also has the "secret" switch in the glove box.

Vehicle wiring products do a fuel cut off switch which could be activated by an alarm, so I was considering that as one of the "cut off" circuits.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

I have a battery cut off in the boot (trunk) which I switch off if leaving the car. It also has an electric fuel pump with a secret switch (not telling you where) this will provide enough fuel to get it started and drive a 100 yds or so. I figure a casual car thief will not know or want to fix this.

As for an alarm this is just a device to make a loud noise. I already have one of those fitted, it is a large bore race system fitted to a twinc. Turns more heads when she fires up than a car alarm beeping 8)
