I hesitated to reply, but:
Did anybody notice that the sills are not painted in the proper color?
It is a minor point, but some people are so sensitive to historical detail.
And I had to remind my body shop to do it properly for my redo.
Gee, maybe if everybody does it in body color that will become accepted as correct!

David,
What is the proper color for sills? I assumed body color - never paid much attention when I was rescuing my Elan from the auction after the insurance company decided it was a total wreck.

The verticle area that is flat under the rocker panel/sill, approximately the bottom inch is blacked out with a trim black or flat black. I don't bother with this detail on most of the Elans I have painted, not really effective on dark green (BRG) and looks wrong on a white Elan. I did black out the bottom on the Elan Coupe 36/5520 (which has been sold) that was painted Solar Yellow as it seems to look right.

...I know, sills should be satin black and will be - when I found out what paint type was used. (D)PO bought the car, did a paint job and resold it. Unfortunately without factory hardtop, tonneau and a nice box full of original parts like horn push, steel wheels... and all these usefull small bolts and nuts. I could discover quite a few of them under the fuel tank, together with a cheque book from 1981, owner no. 6! And there were 3 more to come, apart from me. Owners from the 70's sent me pictures from that time - already with white belly, tinted windscreen and the steeringwheel. It had the correct radio those days.
James, no idea about the stripes, as mentioned before (D)PO... Maybe Europa stripes?
Maybe next days out picture with me - not in the garage!
