Wiper control

I would like to fit a switch that give me one wipe of the wipers,to try and save the existing switch .
I know that the wipers will continue after switched off untill they come to the park position.I have looked at the wiring diagram but I don`t know the internal wiring of the switch .
I can easilly get to the wiper motor and it`s connector block but which wire do I use to give it a 12volts pulse to give me one wipe.

I am not sure of this but dosen't the park system work from an earth? (which is disconnected when the wipers are working) by sending a power pulse wouldn't it give a direct short? I might be talking rubbish but I seem to remember something like this when I fitted an interval wipe to a Capri many many years ago.

The Europa has a flash control on the ind switch which is basically the same switch as the Elan although I believe it is blanked off on the Elan, from what I remember the early Elan had three wires (no flash) and the later Elan four wires (with flash) but Lotus fitted a blocking device which falls out leaving the switch with the flash position doing nothing.
Not sure you could use this position to send a live pulse as it bridges the high beam contact.......I think

Have just checked again-admittedly on my plus2 with inter-wipe,perm battery to 4,earth to 1,fast connect batt to 3,slow connect batt to 5,park is 1 to 2,run is 2 to 4.
One off pulse is 4 to 3, (batt to fast).

Yep, I'm sure thats what Dr Harold Shipman said! ......or was it Dr Crippin ? but I am just being cautious as I have not "looked into fitting internmitten wipe" on an Elan and I dont think we need a bonfire before the 5th of November

I agree with John that a 12v pulse to the fast brush (terminal 3) of the Elan wiper motor will start it. A feature of this particular motor is that the parking arrangement leaves the normal speed brush connected to earth when it is switched off.

I took a different approach to protect the switch and fitted a relay. I forgot the exact wiring, but it stops the current for the wiper motor, with its inductance, going through the switch. It also means I dont run the 12v from the parking switch back through the bulkhead to the switch on the dash; it only goes as far as the relay, which it close to the wiper motor. This can also be easily modified to add flick wipe or intermittent function.
If anyone is interested please let me know and I'll figure out what I did.
Naturally, it's non-standard.
best regards, iain
