PostPost by: Otto » Sun Sep 10, 2006 3:13 pm

Hi
In 20 days my +2 is finaly on the road! Nice, nice. I have fitted Lumanition ignition. The engine is a Big valve with Weber carbs.
The qustion is: How many degrees should i set the ignition at? It is set at aproxemently 13 is it right or should it be more like 10 degrees? do the Lumation need more "before top" time?
All the best

Hi Otto

I did mine at 12 deg static, to get it to run after rebuild then set it to 28- 30? @ 3000 revs (that's the real place to set your timing). I've no pinking and she seems to go well.

Otto,

Agree with Matt. I set mine at 12deg static. It is as near spot on as I can get it. Sits at 12 deg on the timing light at 900 revs as well.

The engine only pinks during hot weather when the engine is pulling hard at lowish revs. This goes away with a little additive in the fuel. (red line stuff)

Hamish.

Otto,

The ignition doesn't care what the timing is but the engine does. It's the overall advance that counts at elevated rpm. What times the spark is relatively unimportant except that a pointless system should be more precise. So I guess the lesson is to set an acceptable overall advance at elevated rpm and hope the idle rpm is also acceptable.
