Hi folks,
So I'm being a bit premature here, but please bear with me.
So I'm selling the following...
i) Complete Lotus 5 speed box, with bell housing and tail housing. It's a late Elite box and is still fitted to my car.
ii) Clutch and pressure plate/release bearing/carrier from the above. This is still fitted to my car.
iii) Repro Paul Matty complete centre console, with correct 5 speed gaiter. This is still fitted to my car.
iv) Prop shaft. Correct length, balanced with new UJ's. This is still fitted to my car.
v) Spare, original Borg and Beck pressure plate never fitted.
vi) Spare gear lever, thread are mint.
vii) Spare thrust bearings. (can't remember how many).
viii) Spare thrust bearing carriers (different lengths).
ix) Spare gearbox (No bell housing/tail). I ran this for 300 miles, but when I dropped the oil there was brass in it.
x) Spare 5 speed gaiter.
Now the story.
The gearbox in my car was rebuilt by Graham Bolton, syncros and bearings fitted. I have receipts for this. It works and is fine, sometimes first gear can be a tad hard to engage, finding 5th is not a problem and also it does not require a massive "yank" to change from 5th to 4th. The gearbox has not done more than 300 miles since it was fitted to my car. The box works fine, it's just that I can't live with it as it is just not a 4 speed.
So the reason for the early post is so that anyone who is interested can come and drive my car and actually get to "see" what they are buying. The rub being that it will probably by Spring next year before I pull the box out of the car.
Anyone interested, just ping me a sensible/realistic offer.
cheers
Mark

Hi,
I just don’t like the gear change. Whereas the 4 speed is a slick change, I find the 5 speed is not. Also I don’t like the gear stick, or rather gate movement.
Cheers

ok thank you - I certainly can relate to your viewpoint (though I envy your Bolton revised box with smooth fifth)... As for the second issue, I have adapted a 4 speed stick to mine as per the Holnagel paper, took a bit of iterations to get the shimming just right so as to isolate the vibrations yet limit the flex to a minimum when shifting.
