Diff oil

Hi all

I have some Redline MT90 gear oil.

Will this be ok in the differential on the sprint

How much approx does it take

Forgot to say its a GL4 MT90

My understanding is that it should be GL5. I received this advice from a friend who worked in the oil industry and used to design oils.

Yes you need a GL5 gear oil such as redline 75W-90 gear oil. This is due to the lubrication requirements of the sliding gear teeth in a hypoid diff. GL4 oils are for rolling gear teeth in normal helical gear boxes.

Thanks all for the input

Having the chance to get the car on a ramp today I changed the gearbox oil but the differential was another matter

On inspection I could not see a drain plug Very strange so I could not change it
In the end I just topped it up with ep 90

Is this something which lotus did on certain diffs.My sprint is a 73 car so bit baffled

Just make sure you can get to the fill plug on the back before removing the drain plug !

I was looking at the rear where the top up plug was so must have missed it.Anyway I know now where to look next time .
