Release bearings 2023

PostPost by: elancoupe » Wed Feb 08, 2023 2:03 am

I have spent a fair amount of time reading the past threads on clutch release bearings. Like so many things these days, cheap Asian steel seems to have made finding a proper unit quite difficult. :( I have run most if not all of the cross reference numbers, and seen lots of "out of stock" notations.

Very few vendors that I have seen (if any) tell you what brand they sell or what country it is made in.

Is there a source for a good quality bearing?

I bought one of these. The bearing in the picture is branded FBC (made in England). The bearing I received was branded FKC (Foreign - which I understand to be from Japan). So no guarantees which bearing you will get, but it will be a quality NOS one...

Thanks Chris. I did see that, but I read in a past thread where somebody bought one, and it didn’t last :(

Hmmm...
A bit of googling reveals that FKC Bearings it seems ceased to exist after 1999. FBJ Bearings of Singapore bought the brand name apparently.

I imagine it was old stock, probably from the 70s (common then for exports to the UK to be marked as "Foreign" rather than "Made in Japan").
