Alternate circlip for the clutch slave cylinder?

The original Girling slave cylinder I have has a 2 mm groove and 1.5mm thick constant section snap ring ( eyeless clip)

for more information on circlips and snap rings some useful reading

note different standard specify different thickness i.e. ANSI versus DIN

I have successfully used 2 standard 1.2 mm thick circlips (taper section at ends with eyes) in the groove of a replacement slave cylinder that had a 2.7mm groove when I did not have a suitable constant section snap ring available.

Two pieces of paper side by side with slippage in between is still not as rigid as a single piece of thick cardboard. At 1.50 GBP each from Burton’s why wouldn’t you?

I did not say it was the ideal solution but it worked when I had to replace a slave cylinder in the paddock during a racing meeting and could not wait for a delivery from Burtons :)

2x1.2 mm thick is probably as stiff and can handle the thrust loas as much as 1 x 1.5mm thick original snap ring, if the groove is wide enough which it was.

If you look at the tables I posted you will see many possible variations of thickness of snap ring and groove that will work.

Why the groove on current replacement slave cylinders is so wide is another question......

Following on from Billwill's idea.....

I have a set of circlip pliers with removable tips which clamp in place.

I made a pair of tips from 2 c/sunk woodscrews with the ends ground flat. And small slots for the ends of the circlip to engage in.
