I will rebuild my gearbox. Any recommendation? I know this gearbox has a lot of problems. Any specialist in this gearbox?

Not exactly what you are asking but there is a good article on rebuilding and updating a Lotus 5 Speed.

Hola!

Graham Boulton in Dereham, Norfolk, 01362 694367 has a good reputation on the forum - I only wish I had known before sending my gearbox elsewhere for overhaul... if not already done, you may want read the Hollnagel's paper referenced above, as it indicates some valuable upgrades that may be easily performed during overhaul by a good workman knowing what he is doing.

Thank you for the answers. Has someone experience rebuilding with Allan Voigt?

Yes I had my Voight box serviced prior to being shipped stateside.

I think it was gbp150.... Took a couple of weeks.

Are we confusing gearboxes here? I thought the original question was with respect to the Lotus 5 speed box. I don't know if Alan Voight rebuilds these.

So did I... I don't know if Alan rebuilds the Lotus 5 Speed boxes.

To be clear he serviced his T9 gearbox that I bought used for me.

I understand that the best option in 5 speed gearbox is Graham Boulton.

I don't know if Alan Voigt rebuilds 5 speed boxes, but I would be surprised if he doesn't. I rebuilt and upgraded my own box, including the heavy duty input shaft bearing, and all selectors and syncro baulk rings etc. Were supplied by him.

BTW if you go to the garage section on http://www.rdent.com/ Ray looks to be selling off bearings & synchro rings for the Lotus 5 speed gearbox.

As far as I know, no 5 speed elans were sold in the US, but maybe these were left over from Elite/Eclat stock.

I have been using Alan Voigt's T9 conversion in my +2S since 2004. He has just rebuilt this last month and also relocated the selector top-hat from the gearbox cover plate to the side of the tailhousing.

He also rebuilt my Lotus 5-Speed around 2005. (It's been sitting unused in my garage since  )

Very happy with his service, only fault is he still hasn't moved to e-mail :D

Graham Boulton rebuilt my original 4-speed, ( also sitting in the back of my garage)

Both highly recommended .
