5speed gearlever

Hi,
The standard gearlever for the 5 speed lotus gearbox appears to be partly responsible for the vague feel in the gearchange. Is there any reason that a solid gearlever, without the rubber inserts cannot be fabricated and used?

Mick,

I think the rubber metalastic joint was for comfort's sake?

It is refered to as an 'anti- sizzle' device,

Quieter with it, but probably as you say, a contributor in causing the sloppy feel.

But to answer your question, Yes it could be used without.

I think Alex Black did some mods to his gear lever in his 5 speed conversion, and seem to recall someone contributing to the thread, suggesting he was going to try one without the rubber insert.

Might be worth read to see if it was ok?
