Miller CV Shafts

PostPost by: peterexpart » Mon Jun 16, 2014 10:14 am

Does anyone who has MM CV Drive Shafts fitted have a problem with Grease spraying all over the Hand Brake Assy and all around the Wheel Arches ?? They have only been on for 200 Miles and have made quite a mess under the Car !!!

there should be no leakage - it sounds like the CV rubber boot has a split or is not fastened right or maybe was overfilled with grease?

cheers

Rohan
The Miller Shafts do not have rubber boots over the Joint Ends but it is quite possible they have too much grease in, or at least "did" as it is now all over the inner wings !!!!

Hi Peter

The Miller drive shafts should have boots over the joints, if thay dont then there's something wrong. Without any sort of protection the CVs won't last 5 minutes.

Or am I missing something

Andy

I wonder if one of the welch plugs has come loose? That could send the grease a' scatterin'

The Kelevdon and Miller Shafts are the same thing Sue has now stopped selling them and has passed whole package to Kelevdon.
The Grease is coming out from the "Outer" Flange each end of both Shafts as marked on the attached.
It is squeezing out from the recesses where the Three Studs are located, I have spoken to Kelevdon who have suggested tightening up the 24 Socket Head Cap Screws, I will do so tonite and see if that has the desired effect.
I would not have expected them to be loose on New Shafts but these things happen

If your adapter is like mine it is ally so don't over tighten the bolts.

Good luck

Peter
I fitted a set earlier this year and they initially did the same thing. I think they had too much grease packed into them and it squeezed out of the joint in the flange, not the rubber boot.
I spoke to Sue and several other people had experienced the same thing. I wiped off the grease and it has been ok since .

sort of.......different joints and made by different people.....
IIRC Sue stopped making them as she couldn't get some of the bits to the original specs....and the later stuff wasn't up to the job and I believe there had been a couple of failures......
when she couldn't get the parts Kelvedon offered to take it on........what parts they are using I do not know.....
I just hope they found a suitable supplier....and not like the ones that failed

Each CV joint should have a gasket in the joint it makes with the adaptor plate to prevent this grease loss.
