Gearbox Rebuild

PostPost by: andyhodg » Sun Dec 08, 2013 9:56 pm

Hi Guys

I am rebuilding an early 3 rail semi close ratio Ford gearbox. My question is I have a later brand new 3 and 4 gear synchro cluster and new brass synchro rings. Is this unit interchangeable with an early version syncro cluster? Dimensionally they are within a few thousands of an inch of each other the only difference I can see is the blocker bars are of a flat top type as apposed to a small rounded pip.

Whilst the early type is still functional having a brand new one must be better if the box is being rebult with new bearings etc etc.

Any comments would be welcome.

Many thanks and best regards

The synchro hub and the baulk rings need to be of the same type early or late. Yes you can put a late synchro assembly on an early shaft.

Depending on where you got it from, the new hub may not be as good as the old one!
