PostPost by: whaig » Tue Oct 22, 2013 7:49 pm

I am fitting a 5 speed box in my plus 2, but still need propshaft, can anyone assist, do you have one or do know where I can get one?

I suggest you try Bailey Morris. I have not used them but have spoken with Clive Cox where they had a stand at an old car show. Clive seems very knowledgable and helpful. I intend to use Bailey Morris when I get round to my 5 speed installation.

Thanks, it looks as if that is the way to go... if they are manufacturing one, would they have the dimension? I don't

Checking the history, it appears that the prop shaft for a 5 speed + 2 is 39.5 inches to middle of each CV joint, getting closer :-)

can anyone provide the diameter of the flange at both ends? Thanks

I have a spare 5 speed shaft I can dig out and measure up. I will do it this Sunday if you don't get the details from anyone else.

cheers

Measured up my spare 5 speed prop shaft and attached a few photos for reference.

Shaft Overall length between the UJ centres
sliding spline fully compressed = 972 mm / 38.3 inches
fully extended = 1016 mm / 40.0 inches

splined section travel = 44mm / 1.73 inches
'
End flanged section length from centre of UJ = 30mm / 1.18 inches
Flange bolt pitch circle = 2.75 inch ( this is a non metric dimension)
(you may want to check your diff flange as I think early Elans at least used a smaller pitch circle).
flange bolt hole = 5/16 inch ( this is a non metric hole!)
same for front and rear flanges

I did not pull out the UJ,s but they appear to be the same as on the 4 speed prop shaft

Great information and pictures.
I will match the one that is tagged for sale, lets see if it matches the propshaft that is tagged as an Elan +2.
Many many thanks. steve

What`s going on here.?
Is It Me ?
Why does there seem to be a 5 year difference between the early and recent posts ?

P.S.
I can only see 2 propshafts on Fleabay , both of which are for the 4 speed gearbox ?
