Salut
Would this do - if I soldered wires:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ESCORT-MK1-1 ... 0700854913?
EDIT: I took a chance on this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/nos-Lotus-COR ... 1156849029?
I'll let you know if it fits when I get my gearbox back.
Merci.
Vernon

Vernon,
You appear to have an S4. Does anyone know if that switch, if it fits the S4, would also fit a Type 26 box (and where)?
Fit a fuse! Years ago I fitted an oil-proof microswitch on a bracket inside my gearbox casing but it welded shut after a short-circuit. I now have a microswitch touching the gear lever itself (out of sight).

The reverse light switch fits just behind the bellhousing screwing down into the gearbox and activated by the selector fork (depth set by a lock nut) I don't think the gearbox on the early cars (type 26) had the tapped hole but I could be wrong.
Even my late S3 does not have the facility for a reverse light switch so I do not know when it was introduced.....maybe in S4/Sprint production?
I retro fitted a gearbox to my S2 with the tapped hole and wired it so the brake lights come on when reverse gear is selected (I did not want to fit reverse lights) ..... the brake lights give a little light for reversing in the dark.
I don't think the reverse light switch for the Cortina (2000E G/Box) will fit on the the Elan G/box as the Cortina switch fits on the remote gear change housing and is activated by the gear lever, I am sure that it is a different switch (much thicker/different thread) and the Elans do not have the remote housing.

I have a CN +2, which is a car I have hankered after for nearly 30 years. An S4 (any S actually) would be more than a welcome stablemate; but that's not likely to happen for another few years - hopefully less than 30

Brian,
Thanks for confirmation, I don't remember a convenient hole otherwise I wouldn't have needed to drill one myself!
Vernon,
I can now see your drophead +2 for what it is! I had an S130/5 which flew but sank my bank balance.
Edit: Curiously, the Type 26 loom includes a wire for reversing lamps which I made use of, it was simply not connected at either end.

That's how I did it as well! Worked for inspection, which was the main thing!
