Differential strengthening plate - installation

I have decided to renew my differential mounting hardware (bolts, washers, etc due to corrosion) and at the same time install a diff strengthening plate (as per the Sprint) - not really necessary on my S4 (with Spyder chassis) but I thought it would be prudent as you do hear some horror stories with ears breaking off etc. All has gone well (I've decided to insert the mounting bolts head down for ease of installation & removal) except when it comes to trying to remove the top bolt of the diff body - its well and truly tight and I can't get any really good purchase with a 7/16 ring spanner. Anyone got any suggestions as to the best way to extract the bolt? - it may be that I'll have to install the strengthening plate omitting the diff connection.

The plate is only intended to support the diff. to prevent what was a history of breaking ears.
