Seems a high price for a box with unknown history/condition and no propshaft either.

Mike

I agree, Mike, but that's the going rate at this time. The gear lever looks shot, as well.

Reversing switch and cable? I'm sure it does. What you see is meant to be what you get.

I've never really known what that means. Should the asking price be ?2000?

I tend to agree it would be a bargain at half that (500quid) but the last few I have seen on ebay all seem to go for this sort of price. I have one on my list but happy to wait until I find a bargain..

Hmm... I paid a damned sight more for my 5 speed package (a rebuilt box and everything less g/box bracket). I wish I'd gone for one of Alain Voights new gearboxes.

With a decent 1st gear conversion it would set you back ?2000.

So maybe John's well known saying is correct, ?1000 is half the price.

Three years ago they were fetching over ?850. So maybe ?1000 isn't all that much taking into account monetary and Lotus parts inflation, and the costs for any alternative 5 speed options.

A thousand quid!!!???
Maybe my old elan is worth more in parts than it is as a whole.
Sorry but IMHO you must need your head examined if you are prepared to pay a grand for a gearbox, and of unknown quality too.
Interesting to see that no one has bid on this yet. Might give the vendor an indication of what the box is really worth.
Just my Two cents you understand!

Jeff 72+2 5 speed.
