Clutch setup question

I'm looking at the illustration in the manual showing the clutch slave pushrod adjuster set pretty close to the middle of the rod. On my car, I'm all the way at the end.
Can I assume this geometry is a result of worn clutch plates, and that I've got a clutch replacement job headed my way? If I back off the adjuster, I lose clutch actuation pretty darn fast. The clutch is the only thing I've not updated since I bought the car 3 years ago. I have no idea how long its been in the car.

Hi Chris,
I think this means (But I might have it the wrong way round!) that you have good adjustment still to go, and from memory the adjuster is screwed down the rod as the clutch wears, which shows by lack of free play rod to arm. If you continued driving without adjusting, sooner or later you would get some clutch slip because the actuator rod had become the wrong length if you like. Adjusting compensates for the wear! As the adjuster nut ass'y works its way down the 'rod' this can give an indication of the clutch wear. Sounds like yours is ok! Best to leave well alone if its working fine. (Is it?)
Do you have a manual for your car?

I concur/agree with Alex.
When I first got my +2 the rod was adusted so that the fork attached near the (open) end of the rod.
I, like you Chris, thought that this indicated that the colutch was near the end of its life, especially as teh manual seems to indiacted this with its descriptions and illustrations.
When I had my engine out and changed the clutch (I had bought a new pressure and friction plate) teh guy doing the work told me the clutch looked virtually new already (except that the friction plate was oil soaked).
In with a new friction plate (I decided to keep the new pressure plate as a spare) and....rod adusted quite a way to the (open) end again!
The mechanic explained the adjustment as Alex did.
So...happy days!!
