Hello,
Has anyone got any tips for removing the bearing carrier of the speedo drive out of the gearbox?
I need to replace the 'o' ring and can't see any way to grab hold of the carrier to pull it out..
Thanks
Robbie

Hi Robbie,
How about leaving the angle drive connected to the bearing housing and then you can gently lever against the flange of the nut which clamps the two together. Not tried it myself but can't see any other way. Don't forget to remove the fork which hold it in first though.
Regards,

Thanks Roger,
I thought the right angle drive was just held against the bearing carrier by the retaining fork(?), not got underneath yet so will have a look later.
Cheers

Hi Robbie,
I think you may be right in which case your only option is to prise it out by the flange.......ooooh!

Robbie,
Roger is right, The retaining fork holds it in place. GENTLY prise out. Treat angle drive with care as they are fragile. Make sure the speedo cable is lubricated and turning free also as this will cause angle drive failure. A little sealant between block and drive on re-assembly is good.

Thanks Roger & Rob,
I'll be tackling this tomorrow, on first inspection it looks like the leak is from between the angle drive and the bearing. Difficult to to tell properly though as oil is everywhere.
It looks like it'll be fun trying to undo the retaining fork..!
Cheers

Robbie,
Note the fork needs to place enough pressure to hold the angle drive bearing snuggly to the block on re-asssembly. The fork is a funny thing and you may need to position it a few ways froward and back to get this kind of pressure. The bearing shouldn't be too hard to prise out. Not too much pressure after it comes loose, as the gear inside needs to twist a bit to come out. Again maybe a new washer/O ring and some blue silicone on re fitting. Let us know how it goes tomorrow.

Just to tidy this one up, Speedo drive is now back in and still works!
Thanks everyone for all the help, Rob - you weren't joking about the fork I had it on and off 6 times trying to get the thing to press down on both sides. I should have trial fitted it before I suppose. Something else learnt.
Took a bit longer than a day as I decided to paint the gearbox bracket while it was off and I didn't want to tempt fate by saying it was ok before I drove it!
Cheers

Well the leak from the bearing carrier is now fixed but it seems I have a leak from the angle drive itself. looks like it's coming from the knurled bit ( the bit that allows the drive to pivot). I did squirt oil in the drive before refitting so it maybe it's that coming out but does anyone know if there is a seal inside the angle drive itself?
Cheers
