zetec gearbox

Zetec Owners (all 4 of you),

I have possibly 5 questions for you:

1. Do you have the hydraulic clutch gearbox?
2. If so, can I come and have a go in your car?
3. If so, where do you live?
4. If you are too far away from Coventry, Hull or anywhere in between, are you going to the Club Lotus event in April?
5. If so, can I have a go at the event?

There you go, I don't ask too much, do I?

The gearbox is noisy in 1st and 2nd (and always has been) and I worry that if I unleash another 20 horses out of my car, the cable version will not cope.

Yours hopefully,
Rich

Rich,

My gearbox is the hydraulic clutch version, I have done over 10k miles without any wear problems. The gearbox is very quiet although it does start to sing or sizzle a little after a long hard run.
Andy at Spyder told me its the only one they will fit for cars with uprated zetecs as it's stronger/more robust than the cable clutch.

I'm in Tunbridge Wells, you are always welcome to have a go if you are in the area, just pm me your number or something, other than that I will definitely be at the 3 counties show on the Saturday, so you can have a go then if you want.

Cheers!
Kindest regards

Richard, I have a hydraulic clutch combined bearing/slave cylinder mounted on my gearbox. Gearbox and Zetec currently apart (not in car) so can't help you with the rest of your demands but any questions on the above fire away.

The gearbox in my car comes from a 1997 Scorpio 2L 16v. The starter is on the drivers side (UK) which is good because it gets it away from the hot exhaust but bad because the starter pinion fouls the chassis diagonal. The gearboxes from the jellymould cars had the starter on the passenger side (plus also even worse 1st gear ratio) and cable clutch actuation. Of course with the hydraulic clutch, the std Elan clutch cylinder can be used.

Regards

Rich,

I am in the process of setting-up a Saab concentric slave cylinder on a Lotus 5 speed box to mate with a Twink. I am about to discover the length of travel the standard clutch master cylinder creates in the slave cylinder. With this information I can finalise the thickness of the adapter mounting plate.
My plan is to have the car running by the end of this month.

You're welcome to come over to see what I'm doing, or wait until early March when the car has been on the rolling road.
