Russ

I will bring my seal on Wed to Carl's. All I need to do is find which pile of parts it is in.

Morning,

I've always had hot air blown up through the gap at the top of the top gaiter and gear stick as well as through the edge between the consol and dashboard. I assumed this was normal (?!?).

I removed the centre console and found that i could see stright through the tunnel, around the gear stick, down to the gearbox and ground below ... I do not have a lower gaiter or seal of any kind. Hot air is coming up from the gearbox / exhaust manifold etc into the cabin.

Does anyone know if the following fits the early +2 (4speed)?

http://www.teamdeville.co.uk/gear_c.html

Any advise on where to get a new seal appriciated
Thanks

Hi,

After some head scratching, and a reasonable time on google, I think I have found a solution. I bought a gaitor for a '68-'80 MGB - if you cut the top couple of rings off and turn it around you have somthing that sits tightly in the 'void' and fits very well around the base of the gear lever.

Time will tell - but so far looks good

Interesting. Looks like a good fit and like it was meant to be there!

My 73 (5 Speed) car has a square hole and came (in the boot/trunk) with a rectangular rubber gator that is mounted above the tunnel. The parts book (on rdent.com) drawings for the +2 5 speed don't show what the setup should be. But on the casing drawing for the +2 4 speed they show a similar but lower profile setup to to the bits I have on my car. The Elan page shows a round setup but above the tunnel again.

Must be another one of those things Lotus changed at some point.....

I just took the Elan from London to Millbrook; the new gaitor arrangement makes a huge difference to noise, smell and heat in the car .. It use to be loud, and uncomfortable.

I would recommend fitting an inner gaitor to anyone / everyone that doesn't have one.

Hope that helps, happy to give more details of my little work around, using an MG gaitor, if you can't get hold of the proper parts.
