Again I'd appreciate that Vince. My current ball is still currently serviceable but is going to fully disintegrate at some point. So would be good to be able to get a replacement ahead of it's complete failure.

I've just drained the gearbox oil and it is as black as pitch. There is very little actual plastic bits in the oil still recognisable as such.
Presumably A/ the oil has not been changed in quite a while. B/ It has been coloured by the disintegrating plastic (again over quite a while!)
I'll flush it out with some more oil and see how much more comes out.
Hopefully just letting it run for 10 minutes in neutral should splash it round enough. I filled the box through the gear lever housing, another advantage of having it easily detachable.
