What a great bunch.. Sorted..

You guys efforts are super helpfull & Graham B gave me a good description of the pivot pin and with John's pic' and Brian's input they have helped clear it in my mind.

Andrew... I will if I may call down tomorrow. Will Late morning be ok? I will drop you an e mail asap to arrange.

Brian.. Thanks for the info' on the speedo Cable. I will get one made 6" longer.Thanks.

FYI... Graham Boulton told me that the Ford pivot pin is the part fitted into the top Hex part of the 5 speed assy....

Hi Guys,

Graham Boulton is (as expected) exactly correct. I have just checked the Ford Pivot pin and it is exactly as per John's sketch.

Well done that man!

Just the bottom part to get then. If Brian sends me his spare I'm sorted... Graham said there was not one with the box so Sue is checking to see if she has one she can send with it. If I end up with two I will return Brian's... Or I could put it on Epay and drink the proceeds.

    ..... Only kidding!!

A lot of good info. here! I need both a bearing carrier and a bolt to carry the ford pivot [ hint AB!] One question, when assembling the propshaft is there an orientation regarding the uj yokes?

John,

If you mean the orientation of the flange - then the answer is yes.

The holes in the gearbox flange are not equispaced on the PCD as per the diff flange.

Hi Brian, I didn't really explain myself well, I was pondering on whether when you engaged the splines the yokes on either end of the propshaft had to have some sort of relationship with each other, cheers John.

John

Sorry to interrupt but I would say yes as it's a balanced item, hence the white paint marks on my prop.

Hi John, where are the paint marks? Or did you have it balanced and added your own?

Yes - to your question.

My friend John is correct, and I'd thought I made some comment on it earlier.

The splines can go together in any position, but after balancing the shaft will need to be maintained in the same position to maintain the balance - hence the paint marks.

All

There seem to be a few doing the five speed conversion this winter (hands up),in my mind it's a winner, better acceleration in first, being able to crawl in traffic (without slipping the clutch),and relaxed motorway cruising.
Will those who are, look at my picture, page 9 photo 3,and let me know if their gear lever is similar,if so,I'll pull mine out and take a photo of my solution to its position...

I Have the standard Ford gear lever, but plan to get a quick shift next time I go through Tamworth. That will give me the opportunity to make my own mind up as to which is best.

Redline MTL is the 'only' gearbox oil worth using. My opinion, of course.

Regarding the speedo cable, Paul Matty lists an alternative for the 5 speed (MSPC050). I've used this version on my car and the length is fine.
