speedo angle drive

Otherwise the whole lot may be pushed out of the gearbox as you drive and lost. Great Information here, thanks.
I just investigated further today why my speedo doesn`t work. I have checked speedo head, angle drive and fitted a new cable. I now think I may have found the problem.
From the photo do you think I might be on the right lines.
I will be ringing Sue Miller in the morning unless some one has a better idea.
Vernon said a seized drive might strip the gear. The speedo wasn`t working when I bought the car last year but I know the previous owner had changed the angle drive.

I'd be interested if Sue can help you out - could you ask her if she has other ratios, please?

As I mentioned in the thread, if the 2000E 'box and real rocket 'box are the same design, than Burton Power have them. I lent my catalogue - I think they were around ?30.

I could be wrong but isn't the gear on the mainshaft steel? if so I doubt it is damaged.

Thanks for your thoughts.
I expected the drive gear to be steel but it is also made of green plastic which is worrying. However, earlier, Steve said it is made of a harder material by design.
With the car on stands, lying on my back, torch in one hand, dentists mirror in the other and turning the rear wheel with my left foot I could see that although marked, the drive gear appears undamaged. It is a good job I was on my own or with all the laughter I might not have been able to manage it.
I will see if it operates smoothly after it is assembled.

I'd have put a small wager it was steel...and lost!

"The 2000E wheel is made from very brittle plastic and is rare to come across one that has all its teeth. If you are lucky enough to find one intact, then great. If not remove the steel one from the 1200 shaft by knocking back the tab washer and undoing the large nut. Before sliding it off, cup your hand underneath as there is a tiny ball bearing under it that acts as a woodruff key"

Worth bearing in mind.

sorry , I think I'm missing something here ... 2000E box ?
is that the box used in all models pls?
i.e. have we all got green gears that need inspecting?
