rear hub shaft nuts

PostPost by: Elan45 » Sun Aug 15, 2010 2:03 pm

There was a stub shaft on ebay (US) last night. I think by that guy who lives on a ridge in Califoria. I suppose with your experience, I'd want to have very detailed photos of the threads and also the area where the inner bearing mounts. Then there is always the issue of cracks forming at the keyway too.

But then, where are new ones coming from. I'm scared to death that everything today comes from China. Some Ok but some just plain junk. Metallurgy, what's that??

I can testify that the billet ones sold by TTR are made by an English company in the racing world very well known for gearboxes and differentials.
No connection, but I did do business with them when I worked for Chrysler - and no, they would not sell me a pair.

Hi Thanks for all the comments. In view of these and the recent thread on wheel coming off have decided on a new shaft --rather than what can only be called a bodge. Have ordered a Lotus one from Paul Matty and will treat it with more care than one of the PO's did!!

cheers
