Is this the going rate for a gearbox ?

The working of that gearstick looks like the ford type 2 gearstick

If i can get a hold of one of those to try then buying a quickshift would be easier than making one.

That's exactly what they are. I bought a spare from eBay for 99p + P&P just in case I cocked it up.
