Hi,
The Gaiter is definitely Ford. I have just taken mine out and the serial number on the gaiter is:
71BG-7277-CA and another number below the Ford logo : 205 157.
Hope it helps.
Regards
Jeff

Salut
Bit of an old thread, but did anyone ever come up with a supplier or a look-a-like alternative?
Jeff's Ford reference appears correct as I came across this:
http://www.fordopedia.org/parts-catalog ... -mk3/H6.10
Can't find one though, and I don't have a gran to knit me one either; and I don't fancy the vinyl/leather socks that abound eBay. I have the impression that the only boys still using rubbers are those with 4x4 sticks.

Might be a daft question Vernon, but what car are you fitting your 5 speed into?

Salut Alex
Plus 2 section so Plus 2
Not sure what I'd do if I was lucky enough to have an Elan as well - think I'd leave it as a 4-speed.

Well that's where I started from.. Couple of decent milage trips (Le mans etc) soon changed my mind. What a difference the 5 speed box makes. And you can't tell 'till you drive it.
Hang in there Buddy.

Vernon, which type of centre tunnel do you have? My car has the earlier plastic console. Can't help with a dead stock solution.
Anyway, you can see my work-around here on Alex' thread. I think it came from a Suzuki econobox of some kind; I just walked around the wrecker and picked one that was close. The problem is most of the more modern cars with standard transmissions have huge gators sized for an auto box selector, so pickings were pretty thin.

Salut Stu
Merci, I did notice that when going through the thread. I have the later trimmed console. I guess I'll wait until the 'box is in the car before searching seriously. I would prefer something that resembles the original. A 4-speed look would be acceptable, too ? l'Alex - I have an old spare gearstick to play with and modify. However doesn't the original 5-speed have a slightly wider opening? That would explain why the console moved around when I test drove my first potential Plus 2.
I'll take your advice and tour the breaker's yard.

Happy to help Vernon..
I would need your 4 speed lever, which I would have to 'take apart' to use the rubber cushion / bush and I would also need your 5 speed lever to re machine to accept the 4 speed bush. The 5 speed lever would then be cut down and welded onto a sleeve which fits over the said bush..
Anyway.. If you send to me I will make the same mod' for you. Works well... I would be happy to let you drive my car but I am in Scotland.. Nr Edinburgh... If you can make it!

Salut Alex
Merci for both offers
I'll pm you for your address when I'm there. I'm taking my car to a specialist near where I live next week - I'd have bought a winch and given it a go myself if the car wasn't so nice and if I had more time. There are enough small jobs that I can't get through. I also have not so pleasant memories of struggling to get an engine back in a Hilman Hunter many years and tears ago - took me a whole afternoon just to mate the engine with the rest - should have bought the Haynes manual. It managed a few more months though before ending up upside down in a field My mum did warn me not to drive too fast - had nothing to do with the fact that it happened just after closing time Those were the days when nobody got hurt when you finished in a ditch - there are just too many cars on the roads now to condone my vernal excesses.

Salut Innes
Merci - saw it and it's in my watch list. I'm not too confident though - there's a limit to what I pay for my rubbers.

Salut encore
Just spoke to Graham Boulton - the Lotus 5-speed gearbox guru. I didn't press him but he said the correct gear gaiter/boot has round pleats. Anyone heard of that?
EDIT: can't remember if I told him I had a Plus 2

It is mk3 cortina I believe all the 5 speed gaiters I have seen have oblong pleats ? I spoke to CN who said they had them then sent me a 4 speed when I rang they gave me the number of an old ford parts place up north but I can't remember who now
