Sorry if I serve to confuse but I did measure the tyre diameters on the garage floor and the comparisons in relative diameter to the percentage change in overall gearing were only meant as a guide which for my simple mind seemed to cancel each other out bar for the odd percent point.

My local tyre guru once told me that the aspect ratio of cross-ply and "normal" profile radials is/was 80%. A 165 @100% would be a rather large outside diameter, surely? 13" =330mm. 330+165+165= 660mm or 26 inches!
