clutch release problems

Can you start the car up in gear without it clutch draging and then take it out of gear or shift to another? My guess the seven that the Bean catalog refers to would be a 1600 with a 7 1/2 inch clutch. maybe the tenth of an inch is the problem, and maybe not.

just to let you know the end of the story - i pulled the box and put a washer under the pivot of the fork, thereby placing it a bit closer to the clutch and slave cylinder allowing for more throw, and all worked. bean now sells two length bobbins instead of the preivous 4?. they sent me the shorter of the two. i guess it was a bit too short.
