Well i've just done something which i always said i wouldn't do. I've just cracked for a pair of CVDS from Col Croucher.
It must be "Old Age" i suppose.
On Holiday in Sydney for a week was tooooo tempting. Delivered to our Hotel Parcel 11kgs to put in my Baggage.
Sprint fresh paint and to be reassembled in Feb on return from Hols.
A lot of time has been spent on paintwork.
I'll do another Post when the CVDS are fitted in Feb 2024.

I have a pair due to be shipped now.
The rotoflexes did not look good to me, so chose those same axles.
I am taking the oportunity to replace all the bushings and properly weld on the spring platform adjustable ‘thread’. The PO just had it on top of original platform with half of it cut off. All the front bushings etc had been replaced, but rear are pretty tired.
Mine still has the ‘pins’ out of the inner drivers, so I think I will pop those out and cut/clean up on lathe.

The popcorn has already been issued for this debate, but if some reassurance were required, Col makes fantastic bits for our cars and I believe the CVs enhance the ownership experience, be it ride or maintenance.
Correct heel and toe is kind to the transmission.

Alan,
CV's are one of the better modifications you can do for all sorts of reasons. I won't argue that Lotus would have used them if they were available back in the day because CV joints were used on early Mini's front hubs albeit with a rubber coupling to the diff outputs, so Lotus obviously knew about CV's but decided rubber couplings were better for whatever reasons they had (probably cost).
I have a set on my +2 fitted since 2008 and a set on my S4 fitted since 2010, I don't expect ever to need to replace them. I don't miss the surge from winding up the doughnuts especially on the +2 and I don't find them harsh either.
Hope you enjoyed Sydney, it's a place I have visited 3 times and will do so again in the next couple of years.

do you figure this contributes to unnecessary vibration?
ive had Cols CV's and Sue Miller on each car. They are both good, maybe I prefer Cols, but...
Also, what I find interesting, is the advertised difference between Elan and +2 C/V's 1/2 shafts. Col certainly has both as same, while TTR seems to list them as separate. Maybe this is the difference because of U joints vs CV?

I'm not entirely sure I understand the question, but correct rev matching on downshifting certainly reduces transmission shock.

Hi Spyder Fan,
Thanks for confirming my decision.
Sydney very good visit but when you want to visit more than about 10kms out of Town not easy. E.g. Blue Mountains.
Cheers

You could always use a hire car. They do drive on the correct side of the road in Oz and I guess you are probably ambidextrous when it comes to driving! so should not be too difficult. There is also a railway that heads up in that direction.

Have you visited The Blue Mountains and how.
The only feasible way i found was take a Day Trip. Which is what we did.
With hire car you need to pick up day before because The Blue Mountains are 100kms out of Town 2 hours to go. Find a carpart to park from day before. Plus International Driving Licence.
So we took an organised day trip.

On my Sprint it has a "Pin" on driver's side outer at chapman strut. Looking through old bills this was fitted in it's early life at Len Street. I'll cut that off also.
Will be fitted in Feb after visit to NZ long trip. 11kgs so my bag is still under the 25kgs allowance.

I recall when you were last out in my neck of the woods I wasn't aware , so wasn't here.
So if you're coming this way get in touch and, assuming you have time, have bit of a tour around.
